Bible Question: I have noticed that the word 'nations' has not yet been discussed. Does anyone have any views or insight on the use of this word? For example, do you believe Jesus is referring to people as in plural of individual or people as in groups of people, such as churches or countries, according to your understanding of the greek meaning of the word? |
Bible Answer: Coffee, I agree with Morant61, Paul uses the term for Gentile Christians, for Matthew 28:19. However in my research of "ethnos" I find the following difinitions also; of or relating to large groups of people classed according to common racial, national, tribal, religious, linguistic, or cultural orgin or background. And last but not least, being a member of "ethnic" group. Matthew 24:7, Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. I don't believe that the Bible is speaking of Gentile Christians(ethnos) here, I believe that in this time of the end time, "ethnos", is speaking of nationalities against nationalities (ethnic groups), as we are seeing taking place today in the middle east. This makes more sense than, for an example, China against Russia, or any other nations. That is a good question, maybe someone else would like to comment, or add some revelation to this word "ethnos". However, it's late and too early for coffee :) God bless |
