Bible Question:
If this request was just directed at the apostles then why do some say it is to all? On the other hand we are not all evangelists(Eph 4:11), so is there a difference between how some say that this request or 'great commission' was intended for all? - ie, does evangelists have a different meaning to spreading the word of God in order to convert? Why do I ask this? Because I see a great deal of conflict in interpretation and I personally think this is ok; however, when it is to provoke guilt I feel that it stops being of good intent and to force one's own interpretation on to another is not so good. For example, look at the diverse answers to the first question in this verse forum. All three answers are very different and to me that is ok. I sometimes think that we will only ever gets bits of it right but God knows it all and so trust Him. |
Bible Answer: I don't feel that this passage requires everyone to be full-time evangelists (that would be ridiculous). If you work in a company, it would probably fufill this commission to be scrupulous and hard-working and have a Bible on your desk so anyone who comes into your office sees where your morality is based. There is more than one way to spread the faith. President Bush, although not a full evangelist, helps Christianity by being a good person and then by identifying himself as a Christian. He need not spew Bible passages with every speech he makes. |
