Bible Question (short): Are we reclining with Him, in love? |
Question (full): Hi Mommapbs, Good thoughts, t. You asked "Are WE reclining or serving?" Your thoughts bring me to the fact that we can not outgive God. And we love because He first loved us. In regard to "reclining" as found in the Scriptures, seven (or more) other passages could be chosen to be discussed. 1) John 13:12, "And so when He had washed their feet, and taken His/ garments, and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?"" 2) Luke 14:7-15, "And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He/ noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table; saying to them...12 And He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him,...15 And when one of those who were reclining at the table with (Him) heard this, he said to Him, "Blessed is everyone who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!"" 3) John 13:23-25, "There was reclining on Jesus' breast one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore gestured to him, and said to him, "Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking." He, [John] leaning back thus at Jesus'/ breast, said to Him, "Lord, who is it?"" 4) Luke 11:37, "Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee asked Him/ to have lunch with him; and He went in, and reclined at the table." See also Luke 11:45,46. 5) Matthew 26:6, "Now when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume, and she poured it upon His head as He/ reclined at the table." ... 20 Now when evening had come, He/ was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples." 6) Luke 22:14, "And when the hour had come (He) reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him." 7) Mark 16:14, "And afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He/ reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after he had risen." Do we want to discuss any of those? Perhaps the question to ask is also "Are we reclining with Him?" We should not seek to be the ones reclining at the table being served, but rather we should be one with Him in purpose and spirit. From the heart, Ray |
