AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 26:17 ¶ Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread (Passover Week) the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?" [Mark 14:12-16; Luke 22:7-13] |
Bible Question:
Let me be more specific. The reference in Leviticus is: Lev 23:5 'In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight is the LORD'S Passover. Lev 23:6 'Then on the fifteenth day of the same month there is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. This certainly implies that first the Passover occurs, and then the Feast of Unleavened Bread follows. The only thing that makes me question this is the 'twilight' reference. If a westerner says "I will meet you at midnight Tuesday," it leaves some doubt about whether he is talking about Tuesday night / Wednesday morning, or Monday night / Tuesday morning. Can the same be said about "the fourteenth day of the month at twilight?" |
Bible Answer: Hello , I apologize, it appears that I was confused,(please excuse my ignorance) and I was also unaware of the passage in Leviticus concerning the fifteenth day being the "Feast of Unleavened Bread", I believe I have it straight now. The instuctions say in Exodus 12:8 that they are to eat the Passover with unleavened bread. The following day (15th of Abib) is the "Feast of Unleavened Bread" and following the Passover, the days of unleavened bread was to last seven days beginning on the 15th, Leviticus 23:6. So, I believe it would not be incorrect for those observing "Passover", and the "Feast of Unleavened Bread" to call all days where they were using unleavened bread, "the days of Unleavened bread". It appears that it is eight consecutive days and would not be incorrect to call Passover the first of Unleavened Bread, I believe I have scripture in agreement,(If not let me know). Exodus 12:18, says from 14th at evening until 21st at evening you shall eat unleavened bread, That is 8 consecutive days. It is also interesting how God divides the days, Genesis 1:5 "...And there was evening and there was morning , one day", And "twilight" simply means "evening, sunset", which according to God is the beginning of the day. So my simple answer to your first question is that they were calling a day of unleavened bread (Passover), a day of unleavened bread, That's my take on it. wordoer |
