AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 26:17 ¶ Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread (Passover Week) the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?" [Mark 14:12-16; Luke 22:7-13] |
Bible Question:
In Leviticus the Lord's Passover is said to be the 14th day of the first month, and is followed by the 7 day long Feast of Unleavened Bread beginning on the 15th day of the first month. In Matt 26:17, the disciples ask Jesus where He wants them to prepare for the Passover meal, but it is already the first day of Unleavened Bread. How can this be? It seems the feast days are in the wrong order. Thank you in advance for your reply. |
Bible Answer: Hello, In Exodus at the first passover, it states that the feast of the unleavened bread begins on the evening of the fourteenth day and continues until the twenty-first day. So, what you have is on the fourteenth day, Passover, followed by the feast of the unleavened bread for seven days. On the fourteenth and twenty-first days, you have holy days in which no work is to be done. So, you have the Last supper on the 14th, Jesus dying and being buried on the 20th, resting on the 21st due to Passover week, resting on the 22nd due to Sabbath, and raising on the 23rd, which was a Sunday. Confused yet? :-) Jesusman |
