Bible Question:
"Faith in the truth." ID# 165749 Such a glowing statement. Yet how can the many have faith in the truth, when they have no faith in themselves? They so adamantly refuse to reconize that truth. "Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God." I find myself teaching and preaching the truth of scripture. It seems I have started in the middle. Jesus Christ, and the Salvation He provides, is the end. Yet, it is only the beginning. The law is the beginning of salvation, for we would not know sin, were it not for the law of God. How can I convince anyone of "the truth," that they are in dire need of the salvation Jesus provides, without first convincing them of their guilt? |
Bible Answer: Hi Shythiyl, The answer to your frustration is found in the application of several pertinent Scriptures. You have definitely taken on a job that isn’t yours in the first place, I know, I’ve been down that road. You’re assuming the following, which is like trying to blow out a house fire during a hurricane. You stated; “How can I convince anyone” Jesus told us who was going to do the convicting or the convincing. Our job is to just keep cranking out the Word, it’s the Holy Spirits work or job to convict those that we give the word to. (Been there tried that!) John 16:7-8 "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. [8] "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment; The “He” in the previous verse is your answer. Do you remember why Jesus called Peter blessed? Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, Why was Peter Blessed? because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. Reveal what to him? The facts about the person and the work of Jesus, God’s anointed one, or the one who would pay for our salvation. God does the work we just keep giving out the Word. Sin isn’t the issue Jesus is the issue, because Jesus has already paid for our sins in total! 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. This isn’t diminishing consequences of our sin by any means but actually lifting up the “solution”, Jesus. Someone’s sins won’t condemn them; it’s their lack of faith or trust in God’s perfect solution that condemns them. That perfect solution is God’s on unique Son Jesus, the Messiah. John 20:30-31 Many other signs therefore Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; [31] but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. If you a giving out the Word, in the form of the Gospel that’s all that we can do. 1 Cor. 2:1-2 And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. [2] For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. It’s hard to have faith in anything that a person knows nothing about. Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Have a great day, CDBJ |
