Bible Answer: Hi, Lookin... This view is from a system of Biblical interpretation known as dispensationalism. It was originated by John Darby, although it gained widespread support in the US through the publication of the Scofield Study Bible, and the formalized teaching at Dallas Theological Seminary. In dispensationalism the history of the world is divided into seven distinct epochs in which God offers redemption in differing ways. The pre-tribulation, pre-millennial eschatology camp are pretty universally dispensational. Frequently its adherents attempt to fit current events into their interpretation of apocalyptic prophecy. Dispensationalism became even more popular when Hal Lindsey published "The Late Great Planet Earth" and followed up its success with a series of subsequent books. In recent years the Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins published a series entitled "Left Behind" (referring to the rapture). I believe there have been movies, too. In Him, Doc |
