Bible Answer: Technically speaking the great tribulation mentioned by Jesus in Matt. will last less then three an a half years. Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. The total seven years referred to as Jacobs trouble starts with Israel making a covenant with the one we call the antichrist, Dan. 9:27. This is the beginning of sorrow for the first part or 3 ½ years. Matthew 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. The great tribulation doesn’t start until the one that Israel makes the covenant with actually reveals who he is; this doesn’t happen until after three and a half years into the covenant. Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 2 Thes. 2:3-9 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; [4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. [5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? [6] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. [7] For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. [8] And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: [9] Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, This is the beginning of the great tribulation and it is cut short by the Lord for the elect’s sake. Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. You can see that the great tribulation is cut short for the elect’s sake yet the time of Israel’s trouble will continue until they full period of 7 years is finished. This is also referred to as the time of vengeance or wrath. Rev. 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. The short time mentioned in Rev. 12:12 is 3 ½ years or the last half of the seven years. |
