Bible Note: Greetings SRN! I disagree with you here. There is nothing in this passage that demonstrates that Jesus was being "taught" by the magi, or that He ever underwent any education outside of Judaism. In fact, I'm having trouble finding anywhere in the Bible that says that Jesus underwent any kind of education, other than that of carpentry (Mark 6:3). The magi from the east were experts in the study of stars. They evidently noticed the presence of a "new star" that led them to the exact place in Bethlehem, where they could see this new infant ruler (Micah 5:2), an earthly and supernatural king! And the gifts that they bore symbolized the gifts that were worthy of a king. I believe that this is the significance for the visit of the magi. Blessings to you, Nolan |
