Subject: For we saw His star in the east |
Bible Note: I scarce can do even a righteous thing, without first perishing the thought; what a good boy am I. Like little jack Horner I sit (sin) in my corner and pull out my plumb. Oh how we forget so easily, the depravity of the heart, even at our best we sin. Paul says; "Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?" -- Rom 7:24 The heart is so good at being the actor, it fools itself! Sometimes, I fear, that that old heart of flesh thinks it can even fool God Himself. The best we are, is not so good, when we see the holiness of God: Where can we find Him, where is our rest? When I became a Christian, an infant, (now I’m a big boy; a toddler; almost out of diapers) what I thought would happen was, that, all would be just grand! No more trouble no more strife. That is the way it’s to be right? I mean, what I’d been taught was that God was like Santa, and just full of merriment, and toys. Or was He that other God that was angry all time, and just wanted to take away our toys. No I figured He was the good God, The one like Santa. Come to find out though, He is not like ether, and he has better gifts then Old Santa ever thought about. First though, He has to show us how much we need His gifts. Now I believe it’s a fact that we repent when we first believe, sort of simultaneous, but that’s just the beginning. It is there that He begins the pruning, (and pruning hurts) and I soon realized that, we need a savior more then we could imagine. But it is only after years of Him showing me the extent of sin in the old heart, then is when I found that ; Eccl 9:1could be read with a real penitence, and understanding, an awareness of just how much we insignificant little humans really need Him. --“For I have taken all this to my heart and explain it that righteous men, wise men, and their deeds are in the hand of God. Man does not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him.” – And in Is 44:18 --“They do not know, nor do they understand, for He has smeared over their eyes so that they cannot see and their hearts so that they cannot comprehend.” – Oh the peace, and joy of heart to know that God through the Holy Spirit and by His Grace, has shown my sin to me and revealed the need for His precious mercy. I pray that we all will be shown our need and can find the way to the Cross of Christ every day in our Christian walk, there is where our hope is, there is our rest. At the foot of the Cross- we can see His precious blood, shed for our sins. Oh what a kindness, oh what mercy, oh the perfect love He has shown to man, man who has no good in himself to pull himself out of his sin. Let us remember this Christmas what beauty came into the world that first Christmas morning, that beautiful Christ Child that would live a sinless life through all the temptations satin could muster to throw at Him, but without sin: And what did He get for His reward? His reward for that perfect sinless life was to suffer on the cursed Roman Cross, for our sins….. Remember Him this Christmas, remember what that precious little baby Jesus came into this sin filled world to do. I wonder what it must have been like for Mary, to hold such a wonderful thing in her arms for the first time. The Christ Child, the one that was to save us from the fire of hell, that little bundle of human flesh that would grow to be a man, and in the prime of life, suffer the shame of our sins, and die for us. Remember Him this Christmas, and remember the Cross. "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him." Matt 2:2 |
