Bible Question: How long did it take The Three Wise Men to get to see baby Jesus? I have heard that it was the same night, then I heard it took 3 years. |
Bible Answer: Greetings LynnMarie1949! The NASB Study Bible has a text note for the word "magi" in Matthew 2:1 that reads, "a caste of wise men specializing in astronomy, astrology, and natural science." So the "magi" in Matthew 2:1-12 are the "wise men" that you speak of. However, nothing in Matthew 2:1-12 leads us to believe that there were only 3 of them.. It is not known from exactly where these magi came from, but we do know that they came from the East. Also, little is known about their journey, except that they followed a star and expected it to lead them to the King of the Jews. Perhaps 3 years could refer to the time that they left their homes in the East? Or the same night refer to when they left Herod and found Jesus? We can only speculate on the timeframe of the travels of the magi. Sorry that I could not give a more "concrete" answer! Blessings to you, Nolan |
