Bible Question: Jesus sighted infedility of the wife as the only reason for divorce. Why then do some pastors encourage spouses caught in this situation to patch up and go on instead of carrying out Jesus'command?Isn't it disobedience? |
Bible Answer: 1 Cor. 7:10-11 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: [11] But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. No sin is unpardonable accept one - Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. Even if he was unfaithful to his vows during separation... Christians are given the ministry of reconciliation... by grace given us we can and should forgive others...no matter the sin. 2 Cor. 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; charis, Greek 5485, Strong's - the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; Many say I can't forgive them... but that is where we need nore grace... divine influence in the heart reflecting into our lives. Philip. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. If we want grace toward our sin - we must be willing to extend grace toward another's sin as well. Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Marriage is a sacred institution in God's eyes. Sad to say, too many profession Christians today refuse to forgive unfaithfulness of a spouse, but if they themselves are unfaithful, they plead grace for themselves. Unfaithfulness is not the unpardonable sin but the liberal minded Christian has made it so unless it of course is their own unfaithfulness... than we hear about the power of God's grace to forgive them! Matthew 10:8 ... freely ye have received, freely give. Back to the original translation from the Greek... fornication is spoken of in the passage... not adultery. Liberal views say it is adultery so they can divorce their mate. Jesus did not give a reason except Hardness of the heart and un-forgiveness toward the mate. Joseph was about to use this "law" to put Mary away before being stopped by the Holy Spirit...He assumed that her virginity had been taken since she was pregnant. The fornication he assumed referred to Deut. 22:13-21 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her, [14] And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid: [15] Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate: [16] And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her; [17] And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. [18] And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him; [19] And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. [20] But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: [21] Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you. No one was ever to marry a non virgin.. Leviticus 21:14 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife. Deut. 22:28-29 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; [29] Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. Only the cause of “fornication” was the excuse for divorce... but than Christ dismissed even that reason... no reason for un-forgiveness and hardness of heart... forgive as you yourself have received forgiveness or if he took her virginity, he was to marry her Why has Christians made unfaithfulness the unpardonable sin? |
