Subject: Matthew 19:24 is a puzzle for me ? |
Bible Note: Greetings Kichmon! What is the source of your information my friend? This interpretation has several problems attached to it. 1) There is no historical evidence that such a gate actually existed. 2) It makes the builders of the city out to be absolute morons, since they didn't build the gate big enough for camels to get in and out with unloading them. 3) Finally, the passage doesn't say that it was 'difficult' to get through the gate. The passage uses the word 'impossible'. :-) The passage makes much more sense in the traditional understanding that it is impossible for a camel to go through an eye of a needle. In the same way, it is impossible for the rich to get into Heaven - by human effort. Why the distinction? Look at Jesus' response in v. 26! He makes a distinction between men and God. It is impossible for men, but not for God. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
