Bible Question:
Shalom, brothers and sisters. I tried to find a post on serving on jury duty, but none came up. What i am trying to find out is, is serving on a jury wrong? Our Lord said in Matt. 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged." In John 7:24, He said " Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgement." In the old testament, Israel wanted judges over them, Solomon was a judge over the people. When you sit in judgement, you are saying that a person is right/wrong. So is saying that you cannot sit on a jury because you do not want to be in judgement of someone, a cop out, or a true understanding of what jesus said? God bless, michael |
Bible Answer: Dear Michael, I believe the below scriptures are helpful: Matthew 18:15-20 1 Tim 5:19 2 Cor 13:1 Deut 17:2-7 (note v 6) Deut 19:15-21 Please read also the preceding verses concerning Jesus sermon where He was speaking against the Pharisees. Perhaps you would like to read the relevant thread under post 176037 for past discussions. The below commentary from Matthew Henry is also helpful for you to understand Matthew 7:1. http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/matthew/mh/matthew7.htm Shalom Azure |
