NASB | Matthew 13:52 And Jesus said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things new and old." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 13:52 He said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things that are new and fresh and things that are old and familiar." |
Subject: Scribe a 'head of household'? |
Bible Note: Well, here is some insight that is a little less confusing here.. "13:52 New insights abounded in these parables of Jesus. Linked with old truths, they composed a rich diet of spiritual nourishment. The disciples were to fulfill the role of good scribes and bring forth out of their spiritual treasures both new and old." (Believer's Study Bible) "The Church, God’s Kingdom—As the head of the family cares for his family with new and old goods, the Christian teacher (and every believer) must draw on the old truths of Israel’s faith and the new message of Jesus. Both Testaments contain the truths of God. Neither should be neglected. Both point to the kingdom of God present in Jesus Christ." (Disciple's Study Bible) In other words, the Old Testament scribes who become believers can reveal the truths of the Kingdom and of Christ from the old 'truths' of the past.. This definitely makes sense!! Nolan |
