AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 13:52 He said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things that are new and fresh and things that are old and familiar." |
Bible Question: How is a scribe like the 'head of a household'? How would you explain this verse? |
Bible Answer: God's morning to you. Wherefore the therefore is my first question. In verse 51 Jesus asked if they understood these things and they said yes. What things? The parables of the mustard seed (vv 31-32), yeast (v 33), hidden treasure (v 44), pearl (v 45-46) and net (v 47-50). These "The Kingdom Of Heaven is Like" parables were not expalain, as the first two were. Verses 34-35 is important. The last three are with His disciples and prophecy of Psalm 78:2 is quoted. These parables have been hidden, so they are new tresures. The old are teaching the already had. I'm thinking sometimes the head of a household does not bring both the new and old out. Bringing them out would show his complete treasure. Just as the scribe needs to take what Jesus is teaching and teach it with the old stuff. I do not think it is about the OT and NT because most of the NT is not about hidden things. Steve |
