Subject: Jesus brothers. |
Bible Note: 6 days At first I thought you had something I had missed all these years but I don't think there is any conclusive proof here. I think your jumping to a conclusion that is not supported in scripture. Here are the three verses. Matthew 27:56 among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons. Mark 6:3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" And they were offended at Him. Luke 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. Matthew says there is Mary the Mother of James and Joses. These are common names and I do believe if it was talking about Mary the Mother of Jesus since these women were watching from afar and we know Mary was close so that Jesus could tell John to care for her. Also I think it was Mary they would have included Jesus’ name in the list of offspring. Mark talks about Jesus and His brothers and sisters but as any Greek expert will tell you the word for brother and sisters here can also be cousins. However I do lean strongly to brother and sister, but that can not be proven. Luke 24:10 says was the Mary the mother of James still not proof it was Mary mother of Jesus. It could easily be the woman of Matthew who looked at Jesus from afar. The problem here is Mary, James, Joses, and Judas were very common names and it wasn’t uncommon to have many people with those same names in a more than one family. You did have me thinking there for a momment! Good work! EdB |
