AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 12:39 But He replied and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation [that is morally unfaithful to God] craves and demands a [miraculous] sign; but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah; [Luke 11:29-32] |
Bible Question: What do you say to a person who says, "It's "harder" to be saved in these last days than it was back in the Bible days, because back in the Bible days, there was alot more miracle, signs and wonders being performed by God and His messengers than it is today. I'm not saying that I have to see signs in order to believe that there is a God, but miracles are a great ways of proving the existence of God. Just look at the incident where Moses parted the red sea, If something like that was to happen today, alot more people would be followers of Christ." |
Bible Answer: Hello humility, I would doubt that statement. Miracles don't cause belief! With the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea in Exod. 14, we note in vs. 31, "When Israel saw the great power which the LORD had used against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses." (NASB) A fairly short time later in 15:22ff, we find the people "murmuring against Moses"- their 'faith' in what they saw short-lived. They needed to be reminded once more. We also have the testimony of scripture in the parable of the Rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-"But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.' "But he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!' "But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.'" (NASB) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
