Bible Question:
I had a discussion with someone today and the jist of it was that Jesus didn't condemn anybody in the Bible. In your readings of Jesus ministry, do you see where he indeed was judgemental? |
Bible Answer: Hello dougp59! This is an interesting question.. :) Some people view God as like a Grandfather, one who loves His children and will forgive them and always accept them no matter what. Others view God and Jesus in the ways that both Joe and Steve have cited, as a stern God that is ready to hand out judgment, saying "You get 'em, Jesus!"... While it is true that God exhibits both of the above qualities to His children when called for, the Lord is entirely and completely justified in rendering judgment, since He does not see with the "eyes" of men! His viewpoint is that of heaven, and it is so much greater and more complete than ours! (Isaiah 55:8) So we really do not have any leg to stand on by even entertaining the notion that Jesus may have been "judgmental" in some way.. Jesus says to us humans, "therefore, do not judge.." Jesus also said, "before you judge, take the speck out of your own eye.." But we must keep in mind that although Jesus was a Man in every way that we are, He was the only 'earth dweller' who had totally "clear sight" for rendering judgment! The decisions that Jesus made were all approved and ordained with the 'stamp' of God, since the Father was/is/will be glorified in Him (John 13:31,32). Since it is God Himself that is 'handing out' this judgment, then do we really have anything to say? Blessings, Nolan |
