Bible Question:
-In Luke 2:14, the angels said, "...peace on earth among human beings..." -Jesus said "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God" (Mat 5:9). -Jesus left His peace with His men (Jhn 14:27). -God has called us to peace (1Co 7:12-16). So why did He say "I did not come to bring peace, but a sword?" Is there a conflict? Steve |
Bible Answer: You are looking at two different kinds of peace. God's peace and man's peace. Even in turmoil, you can have God's peace, trusting in Him and knowing that there is no hurt you have that Jesus didn't have and doesn't share in. He is our strength and peace. But putting your faith and belief in Him will cause rejection, resentment, and persecution even within families. This is the sword spoken of and relates to the peace of man. The Lord's peace will never leave you. |
