AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 10:13 "If [the family living in] the house is worthy [welcoming you and your message], give it your [blessing of] peace [that is, a blessing of well-being and prosperity, the favor of God]. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace. |
Bible Question:
"If the house is worthy, give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace." (Matt 10:13) What is meant by a house that is "worthy"? And did Jesus mean for this to apply to spreading the Gospel only, or was He illustrating a broader spiritual principle? --Cheryl |
Bible Answer: Cheryl What is being spoken of here is; How they were to provide for themselves. They should expect God to meet their needs, without taking undue concern for their own needs; but they should expect that God would normally meet their needs through the inspired hospitality of others. those who do receive these disciples can expect to be blessed ("let your peace come upon it"); but those cities who refuse them can expect to be treated as Gentiles (shake off the dust from your feet), and are in grave danger of judgement. Even though the twelve can expect their needs to be met through the people they minister to, they should never require their needs to be met as "payment". The foundational principle is "Freely you have received, freely give." God's blessings Cheryl |
