Bible Question:
Is this a quote of the Septuagint? Anyone look into the "virgin" -vs- young lady issue regarding the translation of Isaiah 7:14? Thanks! Huron |
Bible Answer: Greetings Huron! Mt. 1:23 quotes the LXX word for word, except for one difference. In the LXX, Is. 7:14 says 'you (sing.) will call', while Mt. 1:23 says 'they (plural) will call'. The short answer concering the 'virgin' vs. 'young lady' issue is that the Hebrew word in Is. 7:14 could mean either, but the Greek word in Mt. 1:23 only refers to a virgin, not a young lady. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
