Bible Question:
can you help me understand matt. 10-21 tip |
Bible Answer: Matthew 10:21, "And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death." Jesus had commissioned the disciples to go preach, "The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. (v.7)" They were to go to "the lost sheep of Israel" who were still under the law of Moses. They didn't know the Messiah had come and would be opposed to the teaching that He had come in the flesh. It is blasphemy under the law for anyone to say that he is God, and blasphemy was punishable by death. Telling these people would cause great division and that's what the verse is saying. See also Luke 12:51-53. Some would want to continue to live according to the law only and some would choose to follow Jesus, causing division. I hope this helps. WalkingTalkingBible |
