Bible Question:
Shalom again, y'all, I'm at a loss again and missing something. I've just finished the Balaam/Balak chapters in Numbers (22-24). I'm using the NKJV and I don't see where Balaam told Balak how to overcome Israel. Does he show up again later, did I misunderstand something he said in Chs. 23 and 24, or like a nimnull do I have him mixed up with some other prophet? (I was thinking he was the prophet who fell from God's favor because he advised the enemy to get Israel to intermarry and worship the enemy's gods? And that happens in Ch. 25 but I don't see Balaam's name anymore in the next few chapters.) Help? :-) Cheri |
Bible Answer: Hi Cheri, The example of Balaam must be considered by God as a powerful one, for it reaches from Numbers to the book of Revelation. The area of scripture you are looking for begins in Numbers 31:16. It refers to the cause of what we see happening in Numbers 25. Here it is: "16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD." Also, you may want to look at 2 Peter 2:14-16: "14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet." And also Revelation 2:14: " But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication." Jude 11 also touches on this. Hope this helps. Ken |
