Subject: Years of Silence? |
Bible Note: Greetings Mommapbs! I know that the events immediately preceeding Samuel was the closure of a time that had experienced a 'silence' or rarity when it came to visions and prophecy (1 Sam. 3:1). But beyond that, I can only think of the time of the Babylonian exile that there was such a 'silence' from God. While it is true that no inspired prophet arose during these 400 years (between the testaments), much happened during this time. Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire and helped to bring the Greek culture and influence to Palestine. It is believed that Alexander dealt kindly with the Jews. After a series of generals ruled in Alexander's stead, the Septuagint was written, which helped revolutionize "Bible" translation up to that point. Blessings to you, Makarios |
