Bible Note: Greetings Mommapbs, I apologize for writing so many posts! :-) I wanted to add that the phrase "Kingdom of Heaven" is only found in the Book of Matthew, where it occurs 32 times. Mark and Luke refer to "the Kingdom of God", which is phrase that Matthew uses only 4 times. The "key" to understanding why Matthew uses "Kingdom of Heaven" and Mark and Luke use "Kingdom of God" is mainly in the fact that "Heaven" was a common Jewish term for God, often substituted for the divine name to avoid a possible misuse of it (see Mark 11:30 and Exodus 20:7). Since Matthew was writing to Jews, he was reluctant to use the name of God in his Book. Blessings to you, Makarios |
