Bible Question: In Communion, should we use leavened bread (like little wafers) or unleavened bread? Does it matter if we use one or the other? |
Bible Answer: The type of bread we use for communion matters. Jesus said in 1Cor 11:24 that we should do this in remembrance of him. It was at the feast of passover, the bread that was used is the unleavened type (Mark 14:12). Many times God warned his people Israel about the using or possesion of leaven (Ex 12:15,19,Lev 2:11,Lev 6:11) Leaven is seen as a material that corrupts the dough, making the dough to rise beyond what would have been its limit. The communion is a sacred ordinance which must not be corrupted by any means just as we too must not allow ourselves to be corrupted by the world. The body of our Lord which this bread signifies is not corrupt! If we take the bread in an unworthy manner, we are doom for a repercussion. 1Cor 11:27-30. |
