Bible Note: BradK, Titus 2:11-12! If grace isn't our motivator to live godly, I don't know what is. I agree with you, grace is our motivator to live godly. Grace is god calling me to walk in newness of life. In this light "grace does change us". But to be more specific on what I intended to get across, was the fact that grace was God writing his laws on the tables of our hearts. Without the law, we would not know if we were sinning. The law points out my sin. Rom 3:20 because by the works of the Law none of all flesh will be justified in His sight; for "through the Law is the knowledge of sin." Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Let it not be said! But I did not know sin except through the law. For also I did not know lust except the law said, You shall not lust. Jam 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man studying his natural face in a mirror. Jam 1:24 For he studied himself and went his way, and immediately he forgot what he was like. Jam 1:25 But whoever looks into the perfect Law of liberty and continues in it, he is not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work. This one shall be blessed in his doing. Jam 2:12 So speak and do as those who shall be judged by the Law of liberty. "Sinners will be judged by this law." Jam 2:14 My brothers, what profit is it if a man says he has faith and does not have works? Can faith save him? Jam 2:17 Even so, if it does not have works, faith is dead, being by itself. Jam 2:18 But someone will say, You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith from my works. I beleive that works are only the fruit of having faith. But I dont beleive that even though a person has fruit, that they can save themselves. Your statement was this: "My friend, quite simply, if you're trying to keep the Law to seek, earn, or keep your righteous standing, good luck!" My question to you is similar to the one in James 2:14. Will grace "alone" keep you in right standing with God? Psa 111:7 The works of His hands are truth and judgment; "all" His commands are true, Psa 111:8 standing fast forever and ever; they are done in truth and uprightness. Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter. Fear God, and keep His commandments. For this is the whole duty of man. I beleive that the law is an absolute essential for perfecting christian character. And that christians should establish the law. I dont beleive we can save ourselves by trying to keep the law. But that we should keep it and teach it to the perfecting of are personal walk with God. These are a couple of scripture im using to support this statement. Mat 5:19 Therefore whoever shall relax one of these commandments, the least, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of Heaven. But whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of Heaven. Rom 3:31 Do we then make the Law void through faith? Let it not be! But we establish the Law. MaTT |
