AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hosea 11:4 I led them gently with cords of a man, with bonds of love [guiding them], And I was to them as one who lifts up and eases the yoke [of the law] over their jaws; And I bent down to them and fed them. |
Bible Question:
In this chapter of Hosea we read of God's love for faithless Israel. He speaks of calling they out of Eygpt. This calling out of Eygpt also applies to the Lord Jesus Matt.2:15 Even though God loves them and longs for their good and restoration, they continue in the idolitry of Baalim. In verse 4 "I drew them with the cords of a man, and with the bands of love" In other words despite their unfaithfulness God continues to work with them to draw them and to love them. I would like to apply this to humankind as we know them today. God loves us (John 3:16) and he longs our salvation (1 John 3:1) In fact with cords and with bands of love he draws us to him. "I found a friend O such a friend He loved me ere I knew him He drew me with the cords of love And thus he bound me to him." According to Romans 3:11 "There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God" What a bleak picture! What grace and what love to think that even when our backs are against him and our hearts hardened against his calls, he continues to love us and to bring about circumstances in our life experience which would draw us to him. How were you drawn to Christ? |
Bible Answer: Hi Robert, I have looked at Hosea 11:1 and compared it to Matthew 2:15 and see it as a contrast. Hosea 11:1, "When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called (My) son. Matthew 2:15, "and was there until the death of Herod, that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, "Out of Egypt did I call (My) Son." We are sons of God and Jesus is the Son of God. Hosea 11:3, "Yet it is I who taught Ephraim to walk, [He took them in His arms]; But they did not know that I healed them. I led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love." The Son was there also healing them and leading them with cords of a man, with bonds of love. But though God was calling His people they were bent on turning from the One on high. None at all exalted Him. Hosea 11:4b, "And I became to them as one who [as those who, NKJ] lift the yoke from their jawas; And I bent down and fed them." I would want everyone to have Him "become to them as One who lifts the yoke from their jaws". That would require repentance or "returning to Me". See Hosea 11:5, NKJ, NASB. What draws me to the Lord? It is the word of God. From the heart, Ray |
