Bible Question:
what was the other name for daniel |
Bible Answer: Daniel's Babalonyan name was Belteshazzar. The name means, 'Bel, protect his life'.(Bel, also called Marduk, the supreme Babylonian god). It appears , by the Babylonian names also given to Daniel's friends, that the king may have been attempting to chnage the religious beliefs of the young men. However, the three friends became known best by their new names; the writer of the book preferring to leave Daniel with his Hebrew name. I don't think we can draw any conclusions here regarding Daniel not assimilating with the local culture. |
