NASB | Jeremiah 5:1 "Roam to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, And look now and take note. And seek in her open squares, If you can find a man, If there is one who does justice, who seeks truth, Then I will pardon her. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Jeremiah 5:1 "Roam back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, And look now and take note. And look in her open squares To see if you can find a man [as Abraham sought in Sodom], One who is just, who [has integrity and moral courage and] seeks truth (faithfulness); Then I will pardon Jerusalem--[for the sake of one uncompromisingly righteous person]. [Gen 18:22-32] |
Bible Question:
Why couldn't Jeremiah find one honest, truthful person? Were the people diliberately dishonest and untruthful? ... or were they taught it was okay ... was it just the norm of society? How can our society become the same way ... not one honest, truthful person? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Steve! The city was too sinful to have even one person qualify for an advocate to pardon Judah. Refusal to repent was the norm (v.3) for the common people (v.4) and the leaders (v.5). - Nolan |
