Subject: How to ask for things we don't know |
Bible Note: Hello Hank, Thanks for your input. You are correct, thank you. It was 1 cor 14:18 I was referring to. You said: "Paul's chief discourse in this chapter concerns "a tongue" -- the singular, indicating that it refers to the false gibberish of the counterfeit, pagan ecstatic speech". I'm not sure how you can say that it's false gibberish when Paul clearly says that when you speak in an unkown tongue, you speak to God. He uses the plural "tongues" because he had spoken in an unknown tongue many times before. My impression is that "speaking in unknown tongues" is the same as praying in tongues, out loud, by yourself. What did the Lord mean in Mark 16:17? "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues" Tongue(s) from the greek "glossa"--- a language (specially, one naturally unacquired) Tongue(s) for 1.
