Bible Question: "A woman will encompass a man" - this is the new thing that God has created. What does this mean? |
Bible Answer: Mommapbs: The best I can offer is a quote from John MacArthur. Says he of the enigmatic sentence in Jeremiah 31:22: "A woman shall encompass a man. Here is one of the most puzzling statements in Jeremiah. Some see the virgin birth of Christ (but 'woman' means a woman, not a virgin, and 'encompass' or 'surround' does not suggest conceiving). Possibly it refers to the formerly virgin Israel (v.21), who is now a disgraced, divorced wife (v.22; 3:8). She will one day in the future re-embrace her former husband, the Lord, and He will receive her back, fully forgiven. That would be 'a new thing on the earth.'"
