NASB | Isaiah 8:10 "Devise a plan, but it will be thwarted; State a proposal, but it will not stand, For God is with us." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 8:10 "Take counsel together [against Judah], but it will come to nothing; Speak the word, but it will not stand, For God is with us (Immanuel)." |
Subject: Speaker and time questions |
Bible Note: Isaiah 8: 9 Who is speaking here? Israel or Assyria? In the NLT the speaker is Assyria, but to me this does not make sense since God with us is "Immanuel." As I read this passage, it strikes me that Islam claims this (god is with us) as well. Comments? PS: verse 16 -18 suggest (to me) that although the Jews were swept away into captivity BC, they remain captive to the blindness that God has allowed to descend upon them still today. Might we see this passage as future tense, rather than history past? |
