NASB Isaiah 61:3 To grant those who mourn in Zion,
Giving them a garland instead of ashes,
The oil of gladness instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.
So they will be called oaks of righteousness,
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
AMPLIFIED 2015 Isaiah 61:3 To grant to those who mourn in Zion the following:
To give them a turban instead of dust [on their heads, a sign of mourning],
The oil of joy instead of mourning,
The garment [expressive] of praise instead of a disheartened spirit.
So they will be called the trees of righteousness [strong and magnificent, distinguished for integrity, justice, and right standing with God],
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.

Bible Question:  Isaiah 61:3 Oaks of Righteousness?
(Amp.)
In Isaiah 61:3 it says
To grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion--to give them an ornament of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit--that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
What does it mean by this? Why out of all others was the oak tree chosen?

Bible Answer:  did you read what you posted it gave the answser? "...that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."

The writer is using the characteristics of an oak tree to describe the rigtheous of the Lord. The oak tree is a common tree that all are aware of. In the middle east they are called terebinth trees. In any case they are big stately trees that stand magnificent before the Lord.
