AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 59:19 So they will fear the name of the LORD from the west And His glory from the rising of the sun. For He will come in like a narrow, rushing stream Which the breath of the LORD drives [overwhelming the enemy]. [Matt 8:11; Luke 13:29] |
Subject: KJV of Is59:19 uses the word "standard" |
Bible Note: Hi Tim, May I add these words to what you have said as my meditation for this morning? And in His power the standard of the cross will be lifted up against the enemy. That is the power of the Spirit [*Wind] of God. As for Jesus our Redeemer who turns us from our sins, He establishes a Spiritual covenant. The words that come from our mouths now are Spiritual words and are spiritual words of light because the Spirit has risen upon us. Isaiah 60:2, "For behold, darkness will cover the earth, And deep darkness the peoples; But the (Lord) will rise upon you, And His glory will appear upon you. And nations will come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising." Let's rejoice in His light, even He who is the (Light) of the world. Whether our enemy is a flood, a rushing stream, or (as is the literal translation), a narrow stream, *he is no match for the Spirit of God for as you say, he will be routed. Luke 13:35 The contrasts are there between our enemies, whether they be men or spirits, and God Himself. The contrast is there between the Light Himself and the light that we are because of His gifts to us. I am reminded of Acts 13:47 in the NASB and NKJ, but that is another matter. Which do you think is most correct? Thanks again Tim for sharing your expertise in Hebrew. From the heart, Ray |
