AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 49:16 "Indeed, I have inscribed [a picture of] you on the palms of My hands; Your city walls [Zion] are continually before Me. |
Bible Question: I love this verse, the analogy of being engraved on the palms of His hands relating to the cross is awesome. However the next part..."your walls are ever before me.." has me a bit stumped, What are the walls? What does that actually mean? |
Bible Answer: hephzibah007 I think your going to far in your analogy, because I don't think there is one there. The inscribing in the palms of the hand relates back to a Jewish custom of drawing on their hands a symbol of the their city and temple. Zion is verse 14 is saying God has forsaken them. And God answers and says your symbol is inscribed on the palm of my hand your walls are ever before me. In effect God is saying it is impossible for Him to forget Jerusalem or the promises He has made concerning the city. EdB |
