Bible Note: Merv, so you say that many doctrines have been developed within Christianity based on human understanding, and in the next sentence you say that you are going to come to find truth by reasoning the Scriptures. Pray tell me, is one to assume that what you call 'human understanding' somehow divorced from 'human reason' -- is 'understanding' bad and 'reason' good? Unless I mistake your meaning, you propose to 'reason' the Scriptures, whatever that means. Where do you expect this 'reasoning' to lead you if not to a better understanding? One can 'reason' till the cows come home, but if his reasoning process does not lead him to a better understanding of that which he 'reasons' about, of what benefit is it? Sorry, Merv, but this sounds to me like double-talk, and I've never been a good hand at understanding that, no matter how much I try to reason. ..... I wonder whether Ellen G. White's doctrines are the product of her human understanding or her reason -- or her plagiarism. --Hank |
