Bible Question: i need an explaination on this verse. one thousand will flee at the threat of one man; you will flee at the threat of five |
Bible Answer: Greetings Ishey2, "A thousand shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you shall flee, till you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain, like a signal on a hill." Isaiah 30:17 [ESV] And here is a bit of commentary on that verse.. "30:17 One thousand ... one. Similar figures elsewhere describe Israel's victories (Lev. 26:36; Josh. 23:10) and defeats (Deut. 32:30)." (1) "30:17 One thousand will flee. A fulfillment of the curse of Deut. 32:30. flag ... signal. See 5:26 and note (see also 1:8 and note)." (2) "30:17 One thousand shall flee: The point is that the nation will be utterly routed (Deut. 32:30)."
