Bible Question:
LUST: in marriage is it a sin to lust after one's spouse? I was discussing lust with a friend. Her definition of lust was a very strong, uncontrollable desire. I my definition is a strong desire. With my definition, I had no problem of with the Lust in marriage. Is lust in general a sin? What type of desire is appropiate in marriage? |
Bible Answer: Hello tlhunter54 Both definitions you mention are given in the dictionary, so that doesn't really answer your question. In Scripture, lust is always a strong or insatiable desire for something wrong. It's always negative and categorized as a sin. Can you have those feelings for your spouse? Consider the Song of Solomon (I'm thinking especially of chapter 4). If that isn't intense desire for your wife, I don't know what is. These days we might give it a different term--passion. Steve |
