Bible Question:
In Luke 21:32 I understand that Bible scholars have different opinions as to what Jesus was referring to here as "this generation". But in the Amplified version of the Bible it says: "Truly I tell you, this generation (those living at that definite period of time) will not perish and pass away until all has taken place." I looked up "generation" in a Greek lexicon and not being a Greek/biblical scholar, still seem to find that you could interpret that Greek word "geneav" to not mean "at that definite period of time"...which makes me wonder about the Amplifed version--how do they decide how to interpret certain words/passages such as here?? |
Bible Answer: God's day to you, Heidibelle, and welcome to the SBF, Translators select words for their target audience. Most don't mistranslate. You need to ask them why. You cited the Greek word, which is good. But to understand what the Bible says, I found looking at the original helps. I look at http://www.biblestudytools.com/ and enter the verse. I see where else it is used ... as well as the root. I also use http://preceptaustin.org/. Others use other tools for their Bible study. Stay at SBF. Ask questions and give us your insights.
