Bible Question: how can we read this in a different context to explain to modern society? |
Bible Answer: Proper exegesis determines what the author intended to mean at the time it was written. Once that is clearly understood, we can make application to ourselves -- regardless of what society is saying around us. Discipline of children is a problem for every generation. I suspect that Solomon watched people who were hesitant to properly discipline their children. In modern parlance he might have said, "Discipline your kid!
