AMPLIFIED 2015 | Proverbs 23:13 ¶ Do not withhold discipline from the child; If you swat him with a reed-like rod [applied with godly wisdom], he will not die. |
Bible Question: There is some verse somewhere in the bible stating to beat your child with a rod. Should people actually beat with a rod or ruler or stick. I would never but know of some people who do based on this bible verse. please let me know. |
Bible Answer: Sounds like they're following the verse and not meditating on the meaning of it. I get that if you spare the rod you will spoil the child. I wouldn't take it literally by going to a hardware store and buying a 1/2 inch rod of steel and start wailing on the disobediant child, but I bet some people come close to that. I would use that scripture to indicate that when God's wisdom in you determines that correction is necessary and the spirit of rebellion is evident, deliberate, nonangry, physical correction, will drive those demons far from that rebious child. Christian bookstores have a book called Parenting is not for cowards, which goes into depth on this principle. Can't remember the author. I remember one funny saying. "When that 3 year old draws a line in the sand and looks up at you and dares you to step across it for a fight, don't dissapoint him" |
