Subject: Exodus 33:11 vs. Ex. 33:1-22? |
Bible Note: Ray, 1 Corinthians 15:45-49 in the NKJV reads, "And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man." [NKJV] Now the NASB is a bit different.. "So also it is written, "The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven. As is the earthly, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly." [NASB] Now, without even looking at the punctuation, there are differences betwen the NASB and NKJV in this verse! :-) As we have found to be true before, the NKJV will ALWAYS be more "fuller" than the NASB in text, and will always exhibit more incidence of capitalization of Diety than will the NASB. Therefore, I propose that we utilize the NKJV text over that of the NASB text for our study.. If were being "Deity-sensitive" in 1 Cor. 15:45-49, I would say that it should be "amplified" as follows: "And so it is written, "The first man Adam (capitalizing Adam here, since it is a proper noun) became a living being." The last Adam became a life-giving Spirit (capitalizing Spirit, since this is a reference to Jesus). However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. (Not speaking of Deity directly in that sentence.) The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. (no changes) As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. (no changes) And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. (no changes) That is my proposal to you, anyway.. What do you think? :-) Blessings to you, Makarios |
