Bible Note: Angel1 Your are welcome. Understand what is happening within Christianity today. The Word is not being taught, people are not being exposed to the truth only to the things they want to hear. Many times these things are found in "hidden revelations" or "passages with deeper meanings" and many actually distort the truth. God did not write the book Bible to hide the truth but rather to REVEAL truth. While your not making false doctrine with your interruption of this passage and your causing no real harm. You are opening the door for someone else to do the same thing on another passage and come up with some goofy teaching. The early church (read catholic) loved to allegorize the Bible and claimed for years that without a correctly trained priest the average person could not read and understand the Bible for themselves. This caused many people to not to try and it also gave liberty to many false and incorrect teachings, and much misconduct within the church. While the Bible does use allegory, the allegory is revealed in previous or subsequent passages. Biblical allegory is a story with an underlying meaning that differs from the surface facts of the story itself; in other words it describes one thing by using the image of another. However this is not the case with your passage. Your passage gives every indication that it is to be taken literally without any hidden or deeper meaning. To try to force a meaning out it violates all the laws of grammar that define how we read and understand. It could also be said, to be adding too or taking away from the Bible and I’m sure you don’t want to do that. While your “Deeper meaning” causes no problem, it does contains truth, and is really a nice idea or analogy it just isn’t in this passage. No matter how hard you try to force it to be so, it ain’t gonna happen! Please I’m not trying to be argumentative, you asked the question why only the right side both Makarios and myself explained that and you then gave the your deeper meaning theory. I explained why it was not the case (that the left side was considered the unclean side) and you refuse to accept that. That is okay. But please stop trying to deeper meaning that just isn’t there. I apologize for my sarcasm in my earlier response, it was not one of my best responses. EdB |
