AMPLIFIED 2015 | Exodus 20:5 "You shall not worship them nor serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous (impassioned) God [demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine], visiting (avenging) the iniquity (sin, guilt) of the fathers on the children [that is, calling the children to account for the sins of their fathers], to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, [Is 42:8; 48:11] |
Subject: WILL GOD PUNISH |
Bible Note: When I studied the verse out, and looked up "visited" in the original Hebrew, I got the idea that those sins would kind of "present themselves" in the lives of the generations to come. Almost like they would have a weakness in an area, or that they would have a propensity for a certain sinful behavior. Any person would then have to make the decision ,when the sin presents itself, to either reject it or accept it. Notice: He did not say He would punish these generations, just that the iniquity would visit. Any takers? |
