Bible Question: what are the ten commandments? |
Bible Answer: Greetings gregdy, What we call the 10 commandments are also called The Law, The Covenant, the Tables of Testimony or by the Jews the Ten Words and are a series of commands from God to the chosen people. It is impossible to overstate the importance of this divinely imparted moral code. They are the fundamental principles of Israelite religion. Taken in proper setting they are the covenant terms imposed by God upon His covenant partners. Jesus stated in the sermon on the Mount that He did not come too destroy the OT law but to fulfill it. The 2nd part of the Sermon on the Mount, (Matt 5:17-6:18), reveals a very close correspondence between these two revelations of God's will for His peole. He reminds us that God demands purity, love and devotion from the heart, as well as in outward conduct. The 10 commandments are as important today as they were in Moses day. Today many people revere the Bible and the 10 commandments but they do not read it. A good many can not even remember one of the commandments. It is no wonder that the world is in the shape it is. prayon |
