Bible Question: what are the ten commandments? |
Bible Answer: The Ten Commandments, recorded in Exodus 20:1-17 and also in Deut.5:6-21 were written by God himself on two stone tablets and given to Moses and the Israelites (Exo.31:18 "When the LORD finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the Testimony, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.")(Exo.32:16 "The tablets were the work of God; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.")(Deut. 4:13; 10:4). Keeping the commandments provided a way for Israel to respond righteously to God in gratitude for their deliverance out of Egypt; at the same time, such obedience was required in order to remain in the promised land (Deut 4:1,14) |
