Bible Question:
Yesterday, Sunday May 31,2009 Dr. Tiller of Kansas was killed by a gunman. Dr. Tiller had done more than 80,000 late abortions. Dr, Tiller had no restrictions as to how late term the abortions was. Many babile would have lived if allowed to be born. I do not ever think murder is right. But I have very mixed feelings about "Killer Tiller". I have strong feelings about taking the law into ones hands as well. In light of Psalm 139 how do we understand how these killings of 80,000 helpless and weak children? How should we feel about Dr. Tiller and his outright death? justme |
Bible Answer: Greetings Justme, This is an explosive issue. While the Bible says that murder is wrong (Exodus 20:13; Matthew 5:21-22), I also believe that the Bible says that abortion is wrong (Exodus 21:22-25; Ecclesiastes 11:5; Isaiah 8:18; Psalm 139:13-16). Psalm 139 also contains some strong language (vv. 19-22) against those who are 'wicked.' But in light of verses such as Matthew 5:44, it is very hard to justify the murder of any individual, since even Jeremiah (see Jer. 15:15; 17:18) relied on the Lord to exact vengeance on his behalf.
