Bible Note: Hi, MJH... I'm glad I came across well to you! After re-reading my post I had worried that my good natured tone might have sounded sarcastic. It is difficult to get some of that non-verbal stuff to convey properly on here sometimes. Great exegesis there! I can see the argument when you look at Luke 22. I hope you won't mind, however, if I challange you to properly integrate 1 Corinthians 11 into your argument (if possible). Paul was clearly speaking of the same incident as Luke described. (And don't forget that Luke and Paul were close companions.) 1 Corinthians 11:20 to the end of the chapter is an explicit dydactic discussion of communion. Paul gives clear explanation of what ought to be normative behavior for the church. (Too bad he didn't go into more detail and lots of us might be able to decide some of the stuff that we all argue about!) To me, that 11th chapter is a real sticky wicket for your argument to work. Again, however, I must assure you that I agree with your conclusions. So this is just an exercise in determining the suitability of the antecedent argument to support those conclusions. Wow, brother... you deserve a lot of credit with all the snow plowing! Here in St. Charles we have all the cold but none of the snow. It is 15 degrees at my house right now! Merry Christmas! In Him, Doc PS for the Liturgical Calendar stuff, see the posts between Ammaus and I during your snow shoveling. Be sure you get a balanced view of each of the sources you find. You'll find they each of axes to grind, so that comes out in their interpretation. I'm excited to see what you uncover! Merry Christmas again! |
